[02]Who It's For

You don't need to be an athlete.

Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is one of the world's most established grappling-based self-defense systems. Its central advantage is simple: technique and leverage give smaller people tools for surviving, escaping, and controlling bad positions against larger opponents.

Our adult program starts you at the beginning, no matter where the beginning is for you. You'll learn to defend yourself against a bigger, stronger opponent using leverage and technique instead of strength and speed. That's the whole point of Jiu-Jitsu.

  • Complete beginners with zero martial arts experience
  • Adults who want real self-defense, not choreography
  • Adults who need a difficult goal and a reason to stay consistent
  • Anyone looking for a workout that never gets boring
  • Experienced grapplers wanting authentic Gracie Humaita instruction
  • Parents who train alongside their kids

[03]What You'll Learn

The fundamentals that actually work.

01 / 05

Self-Defense Fundamentals

The Gracie Self-Defense program is the start of everything. We teach you what you need to know about protecting and defending yourself, skills that could literally save your life, or a loved one's.

02 / 05

Leverage Over Strength

Jiu-Jitsu relies on leverage and technique rather than size and power. That's what allows you to defend against much bigger attackers, and it's why BJJ is a great sport for everyone, including women and smaller athletes.

03 / 05

Grappling & Ground Control

You'll learn to control an opponent on the ground, escape bad positions, and force an attacker to submit. Position before submission, always.

04 / 05

Live Training Under Pressure

Live, controlled resistance is what teaches you whether you can apply a technique when timing and pressure are real. Here you'll drill, then roll, and find out what actually holds up.

05 / 05

Conditioning That Comes Free

BJJ is an intense, aerobic and anaerobic workout. Expect improved flexibility, strength, cardiovascular fitness, and muscular endurance, without ever stepping on a treadmill.

[07]Questions

Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, answered.

01 What is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?+

BJJ is a martial art, self-defense system, and fitness program in one. Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is one of the world's most established grappling-based self-defense systems, built on leverage and technique rather than strength and size, which gives a smaller person real tools against a bigger, stronger attacker.

02 Can anybody do BJJ?+

Yes. BJJ is a great sport for everyone, including women and kids. Our adult classes welcome complete beginners, and you'll be trained at your own pace alongside people who started exactly where you are.

03 Do I need experience or my own gi?+

Neither. Show up in comfortable clothes for your first classes. We'll tell you when it makes sense to get a gi, and we'll help you get the right one.

04 Will I get in good shape?+

Absolutely. BJJ improves flexibility, strength, cardiovascular fitness, and muscular endurance. It's an intense aerobic and anaerobic workout, and it burns fat without ever feeling like a chore.

05 Are there belts and required uniforms?+

Yes, BJJ uses a belt ranking system, and you'll train in a gi as you progress. Promotions here are earned on the mat, never handed out on a schedule.

06 Is this a real Gracie school?+

Yes. We're directly affiliated with the Gracie Humaita Association under Master Royler Gracie, so what you learn traces straight back to the roots of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

07 Am I too old or out of shape to start?+

No. You do not need to get in shape before you start. Start at your current level and let training improve your conditioning. If you have a medical limitation, get appropriate medical guidance and tell your coach so training can be adjusted.

08 Do I have to compete?+

No. Competition is optional. Plenty of students never compete and train for self-defense, fitness, and the long game of earning a belt. If you do want to compete, we will help you prepare.
